Briefs of Haidian District

Located in the northwest of Beijing, Haidian District is adjacent to Xicheng District and Chaoyang District in the east, Fengtai District in the south, Shijingshan District and Mentougou District in the west, and Changping District in the north. It covers an area of 430.77 square kilometers, accounting for about 2.6% of the total area of the city.

In recent years, the economic development in Haidian District has maintained a rapid and stable growth momentum. In the four quarters of the year 2020, the GDP of this district amounted to RMB 850.46 billion, with a year-on-year growth of 5.9%. Both economic aggregate and growth contribution ranked first in the city. Specifically, the added value of the primary industry reached RMB 160 million, increased by 3.0%; the added value of the secondary industry reached RMB 68 billion, dropped by 1.8%; the added value of the tertiary industry stood at RMB 782.3 billion, up by 6.7% year-on-year. In the four quarters, the accumulative growth rate was -4.8%, 2.6%, 4.6% and 5.9% respectively, showing the speed, confidence and strength of Haidian amid the crisis.

[Science and Technology]

Zhongguancun Science City is located in the northwest of Beijing. It includes Zhongguancun Haidian Park of 174 square kilometers, which extends to the whole district of Haidian, and Life Science Park, which covers part of Changping District. It is the core area of Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center. Well-known technology enterprises such as Baidu, MI, and Lenovo have gone global from here. Emerging enterprises such as 2 ByteDance, Cambricon and Questyle sprung up as a new leading force. International companies such as Microsoft, IBM and SAP have set up R&D centers in this district, and a vibrant Innovative Rainforest ecological system is taking shape. The “Entrepreneurship and Innovation” Demonstration Base in Haidian has been commended by the State Council for five consecutive years.
